Great news for drivers: your I-5 commute will soon get a whole lot easier!

WSDOT says they finished the northbound work two months early.

WSDOT’s RB McKeon says the early wrap-up is thanks to dedicated crews and good weather.

“Crews are just out there working, keeping their head down, grinding it out, literally and figuratively,” McKeon said. “We are going to be able to wrap up soon.”

She said WSDOT has done more than 200 emergency repairs since 2019, but this restoration work will limit future unplanned issues.

“We really got down into the deck, did the repairs that needed to be made to all parts of the bridge, did some expansion joint repair, also improved the drainage because we can’t have water puddling,” McKeon said.

WSDOT said their plan is to fully close NB I-5 between I-90 and the University District from 11:59 p.m. Friday, October 30 to 5:00 a.m. Monday, November 2.

“So that means I-5 will be returned to its normal configuration and the express lanes will be back to normal operation,” McKeon said.

She said to keep an eye out for any smaller overnight closures along the northbound lanes.

WSDOT says they will still have a few projects through the end of the year.
